Postini Spam Filtering Service Announced!
We are pleased to lead off this newsletter with some very exciting news. Starting in late February, eApps Hosting will be using Postini to filter inbound mail for SPAM. Postini is one of the most effective and easy to use SPAM filtering services available. Even though we are incurring a very high expense to use Postini, we are commited to ensuring that you have the most effective hosting service available. Most customers will benefit from the service at no extra cost.
Not only will this service effectively filter SPAM from your mailboxes, in most cases your VPS will run more smoothly and reliably due to less processing load. Look for details in an upcoming announcement and on our support site. The key points are as follows:
- Automatic enrollment - an automated interface will activate Postini for all domains that use the eApps DNS service. A manual process will be available for customers that do not use eApps DNS.
- Private Quarantine - Mail flagged as probable SPAM will be maintained in a private quarantine area at Postini.com.
- Web and Mail interface - Postini offers a web interface for each mail user to adjust settings and view their private quarantine. A daily email will also allow the user to see and manage messages in the quarantine.
- Some charges may apply - Due to the cost increase, we will be required to introduce a reasonable mailbox fee of $.50 per month per mailbox for mailboxes over a certain allowance of free mailboxes for each plan. The vast majority of customers will not, however, incur additional fees. The free "included" allowances for each plan are:
- Standard - 10 mailboxes
- Standard Plus - 20 mailboxes
- Standard Max - 30 mailboxes
- Advanced - 50 mailboxes
- Advanced Plus - 70 mailboxes
- Advanced Max - 90 mailboxes
- Premier - 120 mailboxes
- Premier Plus - 150 mailboxes
- Premier Max - 250 mailboxes

Feature
Tyler was born and resides in Atlanta, GA. He is a senior at Eagles Landing Christian Academy high school, and is surely one of the few high school students in the world that has gained over four years of experience in the hosting industry prior to the age of 18. He is a go getter and has worked while attending school for many years now, having worked for several hosting companies over the past four plus years.
Tyler spends a lot of time with his sister, with whom he is very close, and their dog. In his free time, Tyler enjoys reading and socializing with his friends. He plans to continue his education after he graduates from high school this spring and at this time is thinking about becoming a doctor.
Working for eApps Hosting has been a rewarding experience for Tyler. He says "The people and customers are great. You couldn't ask for a more supporting staff." Say hello to Tyler if you get a chance.
New Application Versions
Target Launch Date for CentOS 5 Plans!
Our target launch date for our new plans is Thursday, January 31st. This date is dependent on receiving some program updates from our hosting software vendor, but we do expect this date to hold. As reported previously, the new plans will offer Apache 2.2, updated versions of all applications, and several new applications. Our new plans are the shape of things to come, and will be the foundation for even more services. Some of the things we have planned as soon as possible post launch include exciting applications such as Glassfish, Drupal and Wordpress as well as Reseller plans using Plesk and/or cPanel.
An announcement with more details will be sent to all customers and will be posted to support.eapps.com.
Control Panel Bug Fix for CPU Meter
We are pleased to report that the CPU meter now works in the control panel. Please log into your control panel, click on the System tab, and look to the left. You will see a CPU meter that shows your usage as a percentage of your total allocation. PLEASE NOTE: if you are near 100%, or are spiking above 100%, you may need to optimize your site or upgrade your plan.
We often hear and read commentary on how important it is to excel at math and technical knowledge. It seems to make sense, in our highly technical world, that people need to be stronger than ever before in technical disciplines to excel and get ahead. Not so, says Sir Kenneth Robinson. In fact, Sir Kenneth believes the exact opposite, and has devoted much of his life working to "transform the culture of education through a richer vision of human ability and creativity" as stated on his web site.
As reported in his article called Connect the Dots, in the FastCompany.com web publication, author Mark Dziersk provides a nice overview of Sir Ken's message, along with some relevant comments on what it means for business and commerce.
Read the article and visit Sir Ken's web site for a clear picture. You will be sure to run across several thought provoking ideas, such as:
- "western" education systems are geared to an industrial society of 80 years ago and have not kept up with the times
- all children are creative, many adults are not - poor education is the reason
- all people are creative, and can best discover what they excel at by engaging in creative activities
- creativity can and should be nurtured by our entire society, including schools, governments, companies and institutions
- creativity is often expressed in the design process, which is essential to developing new products and services, stimulating demand and commerce, and enhancing the motivation of people
